Multi-Users Authentication to Achieve Compliance of Key Control Policy

This article mainly introduces the definition, purpose, and setting method of multiple authentication functions in the Landwell key system, supplemented by examples.

Multi-Verification, compliance regulations require login from two or three people, one each from different groups. Similar to the Two-Man Rule, it is a control mechanism designed to achieve a high level of security for especially physical keys or assets. Under this rule all access and actions requires the presence of two authorized people at all times. That means the persons will not be allowed to remove the preset key(set) unless one of the preset people logins to the system to provide proof.

Multi-verification gives multiple protection of key safety. Important keys that lead to vital assets usually is suggested to use the multi-verification function.

There are three factors:

  • What keys? – (Keys group)
  • Removed by whom? – (User group)
  • Verified by whom? – (Verifier group)

You can complete multiple authentication settings on both the web page and the cabinets. They have the same steps, so I will just explain how to configure on the web page.

Steps 1: Adding verification group

It is obvious that there should be at least 2 different groups to add multiple authentication mappings. Complete it here.

Step 2: Creating mapping of multi-verification

Select three factors, keys, users who remove keys, users who verifi, for your mapping.

If we want create this mapping:

{[Keys: 8], [Users: Bruce], [Verifier: Jack]}

Just do as the two images below.

If we want to create this mapping with 3 users:

{[Keys: 8], [User: Bruce], [Verifier1: Jack ], [Verifier2: Carrie]}

Just need do as these two images.

And do not forget to activate it in [cabinet settings], as shown in this image.

Application examples

For certain keys or key sets that are highly-sensitive, compliance regulations may require signatures from two or three individuals, one each from three separate departments, typically a drop-team member, a cage cashier and security officer. The cabinet door should not open until the system verifies that the user has permission for the specific key requested.

According to Gaming regulations, the physical custody of the keys, including duplicates, needed to access slot machine coin drop cabinets require the involvement of two employees, one of whom is independent of the slot department. The physical custody of the keys, including duplicates, needed to access the contents of the currency acceptor drop boxes require the physical involvement of employees from three separate departments. Furthermore, at least three count team members are required to be present when the currency acceptor and coin count room and other count keys are issued for the count and are at least three count team members required to accompany the keys until the time of their return.
